Cholesterol and Triglyceride

Description

Cholesterol Test: Cholesterol is a type of fat molecule, and cholesterol testing measures how much of it is present in the blood. Cholesterol testing can help evaluate heart health since excess cholesterol is a risk factor for cardiovascular problems like heart disease and stroke.

Triglyceride Test: Triglycerides are esters of glycerol and, usually, three different fatty acids. They are the main form of storage fat in man and are carried in blood plasma, mostly in the form of chylomicrons and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL). Plasma levels of triglycerides vary widely throughout the day because many grams of dietary fat are absorbed after each meal. Historically, triglycerides have been overshadowed by cholesterol and HDL cholesterol as a risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD).

Upon completion of the test, you will receive your results which will be either normal, high or low and follow these recommendations.

HIGH LEVELS OF CHOLESTEROL, AVOID THESE FOODS:

Full-fat dairy. Whole milk, butter and full-fat yogurt and cheese are high in saturated fat.

Red meat. Steak, beef roast, ribs, pork chops and ground beef tend to have high saturated fat and cholesterol content. Processed meat.

Fried foods. Baked goods and sweets.

HIGH LEVELS OF TRIGLYCERIDES, AVOID THESE FOODS:

Refined Grains and Starchy Foods

Enriched or bleached white bread, wheat bread, bagels, pizza or pasta.

Sugary cereals. Instant rice.

Pastries, pies, cookies, and cakes.

HIGH CHOLESTEROL WITH NORMAL TRIGLYCERIDES

When cholesterol is high, and triglycerides are normal that usually implies stress may be increasing your cholesterol. Cholesterol is used to make cortisol. Stress cannibalizes or uses up cortisol; your body will then need to create more cholesterol to make more cortisol. It is a loop; if both cholesterol and triglycerides are elevated you are eating too many grains as mentioned above. You are going to need to evaluate factors causing stress.
